Hi everyone,
What’s been happening!

• Thank you, Barry, for stepping in to Chair the last meeting; much appreciated. After a bit of time at home on the Gold Coast, as at time of writing my report I am back in Tamworth getting set to start supervising the Farrer boys HSC then back home Wed 18 Oct.
• If you know anyone who would be suitable to attend RYPEN or RYLA let us know.
• Ken has been assisting completing an application for a District grant to assist the Tamworth multicultural group and we will let you know as soon as the district applications have been assessed.
• I haven’t heard yet whether we have been successful with our grant application for a Tamworth Mental Health project through the West Club group; will let you know when I hear.
• Justin has been working with our Auditors to complete 22/23 financial Reports and I have this week signed off on those so well prepared for the upcoming AGM.
• As you know we have a new member, Tim Inman; welcome onboard and we look forward to your contribution to the Club and Rotary when your time permits. Just need to finalise your induction with Membership Director Dorothy.

This month of September was very funny, basically my first full month in Australia and I’m still having a good time.

Around the first day of the month, at school, I went with my classmates to a driving expo, where we saw the consequences and all the things involved in crashing in a car accident, starting with a play with real but static cars, which told the story of how a girl was involved in a crash after driving under the influence of alcohol, killing one of her friends in the process and in the end being sentenced. The play was quite short, but deep in the message it wanted to show us all, then we had a few presentations about the effects of crashes on the body, an outdoor presentation of braking and at the end the video of a girl who survived a crash, the truth is that it really made me reflect a lot and made me understand how strict driving is here in Australia.

Another thing about the school was that for 2 weeks we were in exam season, and for the reason that I am an exchange student I didn’t have to do any for the moment, so when the others were doing their exams, I stayed in a kind of auditorium with other students to chat or just hang out, then, during the last week of school I had a mud rally of about 10 km, in which I had to run, jump, dive in the river and in the mud and all next to my classmates, the truth is I had a lot of fun since several came dressed as superheroes since that was the theme.

On the other hand, I had a second camp with the other exchange students, in a place called Foster, where we had meetings with the outbunds from Australia and I had the opportunity to give advice and talk directly with 2 guys who will go to Mexico next year, even though their spanish was not the best, they showed me their enthusiasm and excitement to visit my own country, this camp was incredible as I saw my friends again and we went to the beach the last day, where we could see dolphins and besides, I repeated the same thing of waking up early to see the sunrise.

The last days of the month, I went to watch a few soccer games with Vitor, a student from Brazil who lives in my city where I got to know more about his family, and his friends who came to support his brother while he was playing and that his brother, Tom, won the championship of the season.

In conclusion, I really like the idea of being here, going out with my friends all of a sudden and keep meeting people, I feel that my English is improving a lot and I definitely don’t have any problem with the Australian accent.

Rous RotaKids show their Colours!

On Saturday 30 July Rous Public School came together once more around a huge Bonfire / Fireworks display. The activity was organised by Rous Public School P & C , and it certainly was welcomed back into the school calendar following three (3) years of delay, due to rain and / or COVID-19 restrictions.

Apart from the Duck Race; BBQ; Mini Pancakes; Craft stalls and delicious Hot Potatoes stalls, Rous RotaKids decided to establish a quiet corner for little ones that became over-tired during the night’s activities.

The RotaKids organised a sheltered, rugged area, for the children to read and / or colour in those fabulous stencils that were later displayed in the school foyer…. RotaKids were rostered time periods to be on duty in the “Kids Colouring Corner” during the Bonfire Night under the watchful eye of Mrs Kelsall and Rous RotaKid President, Ruth Byrnes.

Kids sure had fun and mums were able to enjoy a quiet cuppa….great work Rous RotaKids!
