We are a Rotary Club made up of Rotarians from all over Australia. We meet on-line to coordinate service projects and enjoy fellowship with like-minded Rotarians, and in these difficult days of COVID-19, we are acting as a lighthouse Club by continuing to meet on line regularly.
Our meetings are held using  ZOOM.

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month and face to face as required.

From President Ken,

Good afternoon one and all, no matter where you are in your travels, Di and I are in Coffs Harbour at present and this morning from 8am to 1030am I got to do COVID duties out the front of the Showground pavilion helping the Rotary Club of Coffs Harbour with their Annual Bookfest. This was a great way where I could support the local community, helping many of them sign in for book shopping using the NSW Services APP. As an E-Club this is always one of the ways in which we can continue as Rotarians to do Service work with the local clubs, no matter where we are. I think this is one of the strengths of an E_Club and one which continues to Open Doors to Opportunities.
Tomorrow morning we are off early to Port Macquarie where we are attending the District management team training. Both Di and I have positions on DGE David’s Management team next year, and I am sure that you will hear more about this later. Di will be Club Service Director and I will be the Learning and Development Director. This is another feather in the cap of the E-Club that we can be so involved in District matters – particularly as we move to amalgamation in the following year under PDG Neville Parsons.
Our regular meeting next Thursday will be important for the Club as we will be updating our Child Protection policies and procedures under the guidance of Di and the District Child Protection officer Diana Reynolds. This is an important meeting in the Club’s calendar and I would like to see all members present for this night.
We had a small but vocal and extremely enthusiastic Board meeting last Thursday.  And we got a lot done.
For the interest of members, Justin presented a very comprehensive Treasurer’s report to the meeting that was accepted, and as a result the Board moved that the Club would donate $1300 to The Rotary Foundation – $650 to the Annual giving and $650 to Polio Eradication fund. This donation came from our Administration account which is quite healthy at present. It was a great time to make this donation, as the exchange rate is excellent at present ($1USD is worth $1.30AUD down from $1.64AUD) and as PDG Maurie Stack has promised that any monies paid to The Rotary Foundation before the end of February will be matched $1 for $1 by he and De.
We discussed project updates:
1. Ken has not but will get in touch with Jodie Magner about what we can do with Torrington community and also with making the donation to Wayne’s family ( the family who was killed at Tenterfield in the bushfires)
2. John and Dorothy will look at getting VISA cards out to families around Loomberah affected by the drought when they return to Tamworth.
3. Di and I called into Ebor school on the way over to Coffs yesterday. The gardens are looking great and we have made arrangements for them to send us a tax invoice for our donation to the obstacle course so we can get this paid and they can start buying the materials. The P&C will then hold a working bee and let us know when it is happening and we will be invited to attend if this is possible.  This will get this scheme also finished before the end of the Rotary year.
Lyn Duncan has some great ideas with the Youth portfolio and she will be doing some investigating and asking for help in this area.
What we need is:
1. A RYLA candidate to attend Lake Keepit in May this year. Applications are open so can you get your thinking caps on for a person aged between 19 and 34 who can take a week off work to attend the camp and develop their leadership skills. Lyn is working  on this but let’s all give it a go to see if there are any worthy young people who would benefit.
2. We also need a NYSF candidate again this year. This is a great Science experience and we are looking for Year 11 students interested in Science and going into Year 12 next year. We have the money to sponsor them so again help Lyn with suggestions that we can follow up.
3. Lyn is very interested in trying to start a Rotakids Club in one of her Primary schools and we gave her the go ahead to try to get one established and running in one of her small schools on the North coast. This is a great idea, an even better project for the Club and one that we should all get behind Lyn and support. There is only one Rotakids club in Calliope, Queensland and we have written to them to seek their support and help. Let’s see what develops and this will be another first for us as an E-Club. Never done before and we will be trailblazers again.

We are also looking forward to guest speakers for our meetings so keep the ideas of possible speakers before us. We just need a name and a contact and we will make the approach. It certainly makes our meetings lively. Tanika will keep us posted about meeting dates and send the ZOOM links for the meetings. She does a lot of work behind the scenes and I am really grateful for all she does.
We have set the changeover meeting for Thursday 24th June – no venue yet so put on your thinking caps and give us some suggestions for venues (not necessarily Tamworth) so we can have dinner for those who can make it and a ZOOM linkup for those who will celebrate afar.

This has been a long report but I believe it is important to all members to know what an active Club we have and when you are questioned about belonging to an E-Club just let the Rotarian who asks know how much we get done in a year.
Let’s keep Opening the Door to Opportunities.
Ken

Rotary members achieve a record-breaking World Polio Day
Rotary members raised awareness about polio eradication and showed their support more than ever on World Polio Day. Participation in activities and events and donations to PolioPlus both increased this year.

Clubs registered more than 7,600 virtual activities and events in 146 countries, surpassing last year’s 5,900 events. We had a variety of awareness promotions and online presentations as part of our registered events, with many virtual events that featured high-profile speakers and attracted large audiences. Donors contributed more than $920,000 online — totaling more than $2.7 million with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation 2-to-1 match — which is the most ever raised online for World Polio Day.

A new social media campaign inspired members and supporters to share their best End Polio Now photos using the hashtag #MyEndPolio. So far, more than 1,000 photos have been uploaded and shared. Rotary’s World Polio Day Online Global Update has been watched nearly 300,000 times and downloaded by thousands of clubs to communicate the critical need to end polio for good. Learn more about polio eradication achievements and the challenges ahead to protect all children from polio.

Fighting polio must continue amid challenges
Even during a pandemic, the important work of fighting polio must continue — and support from all Rotary members is needed to safeguard children and prevent a resurgence of the disease. With COVID-19 precautions in place, vaccination programs are still being carried out. Rotary’s PolioPlus grants recently provided 90 million doses of vaccine, as well as transportation for polio workers in Afghanistan and additional community health workers in Pakistan — the two countries where wild poliovirus still circulates.

GPEI partnership plays critical role in today’s global health crisis
For more than 30 years, Rotary and our partners have led the effort to eradicate polio worldwide by vaccinating children on a massive scale. As a core partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), Rotary focuses on advocacy, fundraising, recruiting volunteers, and raising awareness. Our partners in the GPEI provide technical support, investigate outbreaks, manage vaccine distribution, and more. This experience working together now plays a crucial role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic — from the infrastructure we’ve helped build to our community engagement strategies and the hundreds of thousands of trained workers now fighting polio and COVID-19.
